RhinoStop Standard

RhinoStop Standard is a modular parking barrier that pairs w-beam guard railing with energy-absorbing RhinoPosts, built to restrain errant vehicles across car parks, warehouses and industrial sites. The yielding behaviour of the patented baseplate absorbs vehicle energy, letting the system deflect and reduce impact forces. That deflection spreads load to the neighbouring posts, cutting the load on each anchor bolt and protecting the concrete substrate beneath it.

Built from off-the-shelf components, RhinoStop Standard keeps lead times short and installation straightforward. Each post needs just one anchor bolt, which speeds up installation and avoids clashing with steel reinforcement. Configured with pedestrian fall protection, it’s a strong fit along the perimeter edge of elevated car park decks and anywhere a pedestrian pathway needs shielding.

Impact Assessment of RhinoStop Standard Guard Railing

RhinoStop Standard has been full-scale crash-tested to evaluate compliance with the 30 kN impact load nominated by AS/NZS 1170.1 Clause 3.8 for Light Traffic Areas (Type F). That impact load is derived from a 1,500 kg vehicle travelling at 2 m/s (7.2 km/h), a condition we consider light relative to real-world car park impacts, so RhinoStop Standard has also been crash-tested with a 2,000 kg vehicle at 3.6 m/s (13 km/h). The barrier was positioned on the edge of a 150 mm thick cantilevered concrete slab, with no damage observed to the anchor bolts or the concrete.

Crash Test Performance

Crash testing RhinoStop Standard on the edge of a 150 mm cantilevered concrete slab represents a real-life installation along the perimeter edge of a multi-storey car park, evaluating both vehicle impact behaviour and the capacity of the anchor bolts.

Installation

Each RhinoStop Standard post is secured with just one (1) anchor bolt, facilitating rapid installation and minimising the potential for conflict with steel reinforcement. Each RhinoPost weighs just 15 kg and features a handle-like grip for ease of manoeuvrability.

Features

  • Australian Standard Compliant: Crash tested to exceed the 30 kN impact condition nominated in AS/NZS 1170.1, Clause 3.8.
  • Energy Absorbing: The yielding of the baseplate allows the system to deflect, reducing peak loads.
  • Innovative Design: Fully modular design can be configured with pedestrian fall protection up to 1300 mm high.
  • Reduced Anchor Loading: Nil damage to the anchors or 150 mm thick elevated slab following crash testing.
  • Australian Designed: Developed and manufactured in Australia by RhinoStop.

Frequently Asked Questions

RhinoStop Standard is built entirely from steel, with the RhinoPosts and w-beam guardrails hot-dip galvanised for long-term corrosion resistance.

A single M20 anchor holds each post in place. The patented yielding baseplate keeps the load on that anchor low during a vehicle impact, rather than passing the full force straight through it.

RhinoStop Standard is designed to be installed on a concrete slab. Each post is secured with one (1) M20 anchor bolt.
