Guardrail Installation Services

Installation of RhinoStop car park and warehouse barriers is available Australia-wide, delivered by Safe Direction’s network of preferred guardrail installation contractors. We work closely with the contractors providing Installation Guidelines and Assembly Drawings and provide Technical Advice throughout the installation process.

Our preferred contractors offer supply of all materials and adhere to Safe Work Method Statements for high-risk installation work. Our preferred contractors are experienced in multi-storey car parks, warehouses and factories across Australia.

Our Project Process

    Technical Assessment

    Upon receipt of your enquiry our experienced sales team will step through the Australian Standards and Building Guidelines that may apply to your project. We identify whether pedestrian fall protection is required, the likely vehicle impact conditions and the overall scope of the installation project.

    Site Evaluation

    We review the concrete slab thickness, the proposed location of the crash barrier and the movement of vehicle and pedestrians throughout the site. We identify perimeter edge areas, split level areas and ramp locations. We calculate the quantity of metres of crash barrier required and the number of installations. We observe potential conflicts with reinforcement, particularly post tensioned concrete.

    Product Specification

    Working with our clients, we select a design vehicle and an impact speed to represent the worst practical condition for the site. The range of RhinoStop products have been developed to withstand the various vehicle impact loads as nominated by AS/NZS 1170.1. Each RhinoStop system type clearly identifies the impact capacity of the system, the maximum post spacing, the post anchoring requirements and overall system height.

    Installation

    We coordinate with our preferred installation contractors to ensure all materials comply with Safe Direction and crash test specifications. Assembly Drawings clearly identify all components and the sequence of installation. In addition to the installation of RhinoStop barriers, our contractors can install signage, wheel stops, bollards and line marking.

    Handover

    Checklists are provided to the installation contractor for each RhinoStop system type. Certificates of Conformance are available confirming material supplied complies with Safe Direction specifications. Safe Direction provides Care and Maintenance instructions.

Compliance with Australian Standards

RhinoStop guardrail barriers are full-scale crash tested to evaluate compliance with the impact loads nominated by AS/NZS 1170.1. The three (3) impact loads nominated by the Standard are derived as follows:

30 kN

Derived from a 1500 kg vehicle travelling at 2 m/s (7.2 km/h) and impacting the barrier at a height of 500 mm above ground level.

40 kN

Derived from a 2000 kg vehicle travelling at 2 m/s (7.2 km/h) and impacting the barrier at a height of 1000 mm above ground level.

240 kN

Derived from a 2000 kg vehicle travelling at 6 m/s (21.6 km/h) and impacting the barrier at a height of 500 mm above ground level.

All RhinoStop barriers are crash tested with a 2000 kg dual cab utility vehicle representing the average mass of a passenger vehicle sold in Australia. Impacts are performed at speeds representing real-life scenarios and include the barrier positioned on the edge of a 150 mm thick cantilevered concrete slab representing an elevated car park structure.

Each crash test evaluates the capacity of the barrier, vehicle impact behaviour and performance of the post anchors.

Guardrail barrier installed in car park and warehouse applications should comply with the impact loads nominated by AS/NZS 1170.1. All RhinoStop barriers are full-scale crash tested to evaluate compliance with one or more of the three (3) impact conditions described by the Standard (30 kN, 40 kN or 240 kN).

The modular design of RhinoStop guardrails facilitates rapid installation. The energy -absorbing baseplates are designed to yield and reduce the loads transferred to the anchor bolts. This reduces the number of post anchors when compared to traditional barrier designs, reducing installation time.

The time required to install RhinoStop will depend upon the scope of the project, the configuration of the barrier and site accessibility. Typically, a three-person crew can install up to 100 m of RhinoStop barrier per day.

Yes. RhinoStop is suitable for new or retrofit applications. Our site assessment will include an evaluation of the existing concrete slab and the suitability of RhinoStop. An important design consideration is the energy-absorbing baseplates and fewer post anchors of RhinoStop when compared to traditional barrier designs.

All RhinoStop barriers have been crash tested when secured to a 150 mm thick concrete slab. Installation is undertaken using M20 x 187 mm Fischer FBN II anchors with an embedment depth of 115 mm.

Concrete slabs thinner than 150 mm can be considered following evaluation by Safe Direction.

Yes. Safe Direction supplies all materials, including fastener and anchor bolts ensuring material compliance to Safe Direction specifications.
