Steel used for our roll-forming operation is manufactured locally by BlueScope Steel. RhinoStop guardrails comply with Australian Road Authority specifications and are laser-engraved during manufacturing, providing traceability to steel heat numbers. This important step distinguishes Safe Direction from other manufacturers who batch stamp. The batch stamping process may use coils that come from different heat numbers.

Safe Direction’s process ensures its customers can be confident of receiving material test certificates corresponding to the heat number as marked on their guardrail product.

Quality Assurance

Safe Direction is a company that focuses on its customers’ needs. As an Australian-owned enterprise, we pride ourselves on the manufacture and distribution of guardrail and safety barrier products for car parks, warehouses, roads and bridges.

Safe Direction operates under a third-party certified Quality Management System, certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, registered with SAI Global.

Unlike its competitors, RhinoStop’s guardrail products are stamped for traceability back to the specific production heat of the steel from which they are manufactured. Mill Certificates and laboratory reports are maintained in a database system for easy retrieval and for generating verification reports for Safe Direction’s customers.

Full-Scale Crash Testing

The various RHINO-STOP® systems have been crash test validated to evaluate compliance with the impact loads described in AS/NZS 1170.1. Crash testing thoroughly evaluates barrier behaviour and potential damage to the post anchor fixings and concrete slab. Crash testing should evaluate the ‘worst case impact scenario’, introducing a factor of safety into the design process. Therefore, most RHINO-STOP® systems are crash tested as follows:

  • Short installation lengths comprising just two (2) or three (3) supporting posts;
  • Vehicle impacting the edge of the system to maximise loading on the end post;
  • Vehicle impact speeds up to twice the nominal speeds of the Standard; and
  • Posts are positioned on the edge of a 150 mm-thick elevated slab.
